On Track Summary

Laws entered Prodigy Week as a winner from the Street Kart Racing game, having not karted in real life for over a decade. At a significant disadvantage, he performed as anticipated. Despite showing solid progression across his five on-track sessions, he was unable to achieve the necessary speed. With more seat time, Laws could become competitive on the track, but it will ultimately be up to the teams and fans to decide whether he is more deserving than others.

Off-Track Summary

One of the favorite racers during Prodigy Week, Laws expressed gratitude for the opportunity he did not have growing up, savoring every moment of the experience. He was very receptive to feedback and a great listener. One standout moment came when he acknowledged that, while he knew he wasn’t yet fast enough, he didn’t want to take someone else's opportunity who had more skill. This thoughtful remark surprised his coach, but given Laws' reputation as a great person, it wasn't entirely unexpected. Many view Laws as one of the most deserving candidates for additional seat time and the chance to pursue his childhood dream. He will bring his positive attitude and experience to the Practice Squad as he strives to earn a spot on a roster.

Bio

A 46-year-old civil engineering estimator since July 2000 when he left university after studying Architecture and CAD. Laws was born in Belper, Derbyshire, and has lived in Derby all of his life. I’m married to my lovely wife TC and we own a suburban detached house that we share with a nutty border collie could Storm. We spend most of our free time together hill or coastal walking with the dog. I’ve always been sporting, competing for my county at 800m and 1500m as a youth, and I maintain my running doing daily 5km runs. I was always quite handy at snooker and pool, and am currently the vice-captain of a Monday night pool team. I’ve been gaming since circa 1984 and my YouTube channel (Tough Monkey, my former karting team name) is dedicated primarily to retro gaming as well as guides for racing games and also consumer reviews. I’m a member of the Amazon Vine review programme, having been a top 25 reviewer on Amazon until they dropped the leaderboards a few years ago. It was always my ambition from a young boy to be a race driver, inspired by my childhood heroes Nigel Mansell in the Lotus and Williams of 1980’s F1, and Tony Pond in the MG Metro 6R4 Group B Rally era. However, that was never a realistic financial option to my family, so I burned off the desire playing pretty much every driving game you can think of across every arcade, computer and console going. When I thought I could afford it I began karting from Buckmore Park for four seasons, but even that quickly exhausted my funds and I gave it up to concentrate on saving money to buy the house we currently live in.

Racing history

2006-2009: Competed in 55 kart endurance races at Buckmore Park; highlights include Le Mans 24hr (4th in 2008, 5th in 2009) and Team of Steel Winter 2007/08 champions. Returning to Buckmore Park this summer for karting after 15 years.
